Humidity Facts

Humidity will make a hot day feel even hotter since it slows the evaporation process. Your body cools itself through the evaporation of perspiration. When this process is slowed, less heat is removed from your skin. That in turn makes you feel hotter than the relative temp.

It's that time of the year!

Summer peak temperature tends to lag because of maximum energy input through sunshine, a lag that is commonly about four weeks in the United States. This time is needed for temperature to reach equilibrium with incoming solar energy. Thus, the third or fourth week of July typically mark the peak of summer with respect to temperature. The same lag between temperature and incoming energy can be seen in winter

Derecho: 'The Land Hurricane'

Derechos are referred to as land hurricanes due to the hurricanelike conditions that occur over land with this weather phenomenon.
This term refers to a type of thunderstorm complex that is at least 240 miles wide, according to the Storm Prediction Center. These violent severe thunderstorm clusters produce widespread and long-lived, straight-line wind damage.

What is Earth Day?

A day in which people would celebrate the beauty of the planet, as well as raise awareness for ways to preserve its natural resources and protect its species. Today, Earth Day is observed in 192 countries. Whether it's a massive public rally, a private event, or an individual contribution, there are many ways to participate. Efforts can range from organizing environmental fundraisers, to planting a tree, to taking care to use less water and paying extra attention to how many lights are left on. Lets all do what we can to better our planet for the future. Our kids depend on it!

ReBlooming Azaleas

New ReBloom azaleas from Greenleaf Nursery are evergreen, disease-resistant, reblooming azaleas that feature large flowers in spring, then rebloom in summer and continue blooming until hard frost. Even high summer temperatures won’t stop these beauties from producing loads of late-summer and fall flowers. Developed by breeder Bob Head, the azaleas are hardy to Zone 6  and stay compact due to the self-pruning nature of the continual flushes of bloom. They also offer a wide range of distinctive colors and large, double and even triple-petal flowers that provide big landscape impact.
